Being the first airline operated in the course of modern enterprise in China, Xiamen Airlines Co. Ltd was established on 25th July, 1984 jointly by Civil Aviation Administration of China and Fujian Provincial Government. The shareholders of Xiamen Airlines are China Southern Airlines Co., Ltd., Xiamen C & D Corporation Limited and Jizhong Energy Resources Co., Ltd. with 51%, 34% and 15% shares respectively. The IATA designator of Xiamen Airlines is ^MF ̄, and the corporate logo is ^Soaring Egret in the Blue Sky ̄.

Xiamen Airlines is the only Chinese airline featuring an all-Boeing fleet, currently operating a fleet of 95 aircraft with a total of 15,460 seats, and an average airplane service age of 5.02 years. The fleet includes 17 Boeing 737-700, 72 Boeing 737-800 and 6 Boeing 757-200. The flight network is comprised of 218 domestic routes, and 26 international and regional routes, offering over 3,200 weekly flights originating from Xiamen/Fuzhou to all major municipalities, provincial capital cities and major tourist destinations across China. Xiamen Airlines has 24 affiliated agencies, four branches - in Fuzhou, Hangzhou, Nanchang, and Tianjin, three operation bases - in Quanzhou, Hunan, and Beijing, and 40 domestic and international business departments and offices.
